Blood Glucose Reader

The intention of this concept is to reduce the negative attention attracted from others to adolescents with Type 1 diabetes when they are testing their blood glucose levels. By integrating the needle and the reader together, the user can both prick their finger and test their blood glucose levels with the same device, reducing the amount of equipment they need to carry on them with a discrete element to hide the needle from others that may find it uncomfortable.

The needle is embedded in a casing that covers the tip when it is inactive. Once the test strip activates the device the needle is spring charged when the user presses the button on the home screen.

The test strips are located at the bottom of the device to keep them clean and sterile. In order for the needle to be activated, the test strip needs to be in the reading slot. This reduces the risk of contamination of the needle. This part can be safely removed and cleaned when necessary, enabling the user to replace the test strips and the needle.
